Publishing terms for authors and backers

Author's terms and conditions

The author explicitly states that their project is an original work that does not infringe on the intellectual property of a third person. You must be an adult (18 +) to form part of Pentian’s authors. If you are a minor, you will need to represented by a parent or guardian. Contact us for more information.

Review timeline.

We must review all projects received. Due to the volume of submissions that we receive, it takes time to filter through them. Our timeframe for responding to publishing submissions is a máximum of 15 business days.

Cost of registration and use of the publication platform.

There are no fees for using the platform for the projects that we approve. The cost associated with the publication of the book is covered thanks to the support of the backers using the crowd funding system. The publication costs are established by the publisher based on the technical characteristics of the manuscript submitted as well as publishing details, such as the number of pages, the book format and number of issues that will be made, and services contracted. Taking into consideration all of these factors related to the costs, the number of backers required to publish the book will be determined as well as the rewards that will be given to the backers.

Percentage of the royalties that are distributed to the author and backers..

Pentian manages the payment of royalties based on the sales of both digital and physical books. Royalties are generated from the net sales, which are the profits earned after the costs of production, distribution and other fees have been paid. The author receives 40% of the royalties, while the backers share 50%, in accordance with the percentage of their contribution to the project, leaving 10% for Pentian. The royalties are paid via Paypal; therefore it is necessary to register your PayPal account on your user profile. The payments will be made biannually, as long as there is a mínimum balance of $10. The corresponding royalties will be periodically updated on the author's and backer's password protected dashboard.

Pentian's unique publishing model shares royalties between Author (40%), Backers (50%), and publisher, Pentian (10%).The royalties will be paid via Paypal as indicated on the personal page of the user. We will establish an amount that will be limit the bank fees. The payments will be made at least twice a year.

The corresponding royalties will be periodically updated on the author's and backer's password protected page.

ISBN/BISAC REGISTRATION

Every book that Pentian publishes is assigned a unique ISBN number which can be used to market the book internationally through the professional sales channels.

Exclusivity

As a commitment to the backers, the author agrees to sell the edition publñished by Pentian exclusively through our channels for 3 years. At the end of that period, the author recovers the full rights to their work. The creativity copyright always remains with the author.
Independent of the fact that it can be sent to another publisher, Pentia reserves the possibility of continuing to sell the book for three years after the publication date. The royalties from the sales will continue to be divided as agreed between the author and the backers.

How to register a publishing project

Register on our web as an author and follow the required steps. You can also contact us via email at info@pentian.com

Time frame for publishing your work

It is not necessary to have finished your book before your campaign goes live. The time limit to complete the project and fulfill the obligation to the backers is nine months after the end of the campaign.

What is involved in a campaign?

It is a period of 60 days in which the author presents his project and tries to get the required support to publish his work. The number of backers as well as the amount of money needed depends on each project and is defined by the publisher.

Submitting a Sample of the Project

You can send the complete book or just an extract of it to register the book so that we can review it and decide whether to accept it for a campaign. You should include additional information such as the summary (blurb), author's biography, photographs, etc...The more profesional and complete your book profile, the more attractive it will be to our Evaluation Team as well as potential backers and readers.

Technical aspects of the publication, layout, design, printing and distribution.

Our books can be published in paper or electronic format. Normally we create both versions but should the author wish one can be eliminated. If an electronic version of the book exists, we will format it to industry standards making it available to the majority of the platforms in the sector. This will also be subject to the technical and commercial conditions. In the case of paper format, we can publish in any size and finish that is market standard. However, the standard size that we use for the majority of our projects is 6x9” (15.2 x 22.8cm) or 8x8” (20 x 20cm) for children’s picture books. The decisions regarding the physical format will be subject to technical and commercial criteria. The layout, cover design and other graphic elements of the work will be included and the publisher will dedicate the required resources for the best possible edition of the book.

Amount of initial run

We will make an estimate based on various factors: the number of books ordered for the backers, the total amount of support achieved and the expected sales. In any case, we work with print on demand systems that allow projects to be printed depending on sales and demand. The production and reprinting are subject to the conditions of our providers and international printing partners which are, in most cases, the standard timeframe in the industry. Pentian will ship, without any additional costs, those books designated for backers located in the US and the EU. Shipments to addresses outside of those territories will incur additional shipping expenses that will have to be paid before the books can be shipped. The distribution will be handled by digital distributers, on-line channels and possible traditional distributers depending on the individual case. The commercial exposure of each book is ultimately dependent on the distribution channel and, for that reason, Pentian will not be held responsible.
